Wearing: striped tee (vintage Broadway Betty), cropped denim jacket (thrifted), jeans (nobody), boots (thrifted), keys necklace (present), multi-coloured charm bracelet (made by me), cobalt blue stone ring (Wonder Garage).
Picked up this stripy tee from a vintage store called Broadway Betty in Broadway, Sydney - loving the embroided Ocean Club emblem, it screams all things nautical! When I was living away I would pass this store each time I went grocery shopping, though with my shopping list heavily occupying my mind (and the heavy grocery bags later), getting food for the week was more of a priority.
One day I had to go in and it was certainly a sweet little treasure trove and surprisingly two levels! (okay, I'll take back 'little') I heard the staircase at the back of the store calling me and as a large shelf of vintage Levi's welcomed me down the stairs, there was wall-to-wall vintage of outerwear like coats, jackets and winter knits. Did I hit the jackpot? Perhaps so. Walking out with a nautical striped tee and a black velvet vest, I then went off to Coles ;)

I stumbled upon this AH-mazing Aussie photographer Nirrimi Hakanson, originally from Townsville and only 17!! Sayy whattttt?!!!!!! At the tender age of 13, Nirrimi started taking photos and is now signed with an agency shooting DIESEL ads. You MUST visit her portfolio and blog WE LIVE YOUNG. She is definitely my new favourite photographer! Her vision is genius and yet so effortless - there is no doubt she will have a promising career. Here are a couple of my favourite photos by Nirrimi:

And did I say, she has such a mature understanding of life in general. After reading one of her journal entries on DeviantArt, I am amazed of how a 17 year old could have such a headstrong grasp on life and making things happen for herself. She is truly an inspiration - I'm sure after reading this little excerpt you'd never thought a teenager could offer this degree of advice and insights. But in light of all the experiences she would of had, people she would of met and places she has been, there is no doubt that Nirrimi would of had to grow up so quickly and attain this positive and motivated way of thinking or yet living. And to think of what I was doing at age 17?!!!! ....trying to score a fake id and fantasy scenarios - oh dear.
"....i have worked and i have obsessed. i've left my mind inside my camera and forgotten to use my head, pushing away friends and family and being regretfully selfish. i've forced myself to grow up rather quickly. and now things are beginning to happen for me. things i only ever imagined. not just with photography, but also with my life and lover (but that's a story for another day).
i've learnt that to make dreams come true, you have to be obsessed. truly, utterly obsessed. i think of obsession as passion squared, and if you have passion for something people will see that. if you go through an entire day without doing something towards your dream, you're not obsessed enough to make it happen.
sure, some people get lucky, but we're not going to wait around to see if that's us. we need to make things happen for ourselves, because we are the only ones in control of our lives. with enough obsession and work any dream can come true for you. you will be disappointed, sleepless and somedays you will want to give up. but you will be happy, because you are living...."
