"You will go to sleep. You will wake up. It will be as if those hours never existed"

"Death-haunted, quietly reckless, Lucy is a young university student who takes a job as a Sleeping Beauty. In the Sleeping Beauty Chamber old men seek an erotic experience that requires Lucy’s absolute submission. This unsettling task starts to bleed into Lucy’s daily life and she develops an increasing need to know what happens to her when she is asleep."

A film by Australian writer Julia Leigh, Sleeping Beauty is one of those films that takes 'erotic drama' to a whole new level. Being a fan of intense films like Black Swan and Chloe, the themes of innocence, sensuality and deception are ones to be explored without boundaries, if not make you feel uncomfortable and unsettled by the end of the movie. Melbournian actress Emily Browning, (Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events , The Uninvited and Sucker Punch) takes the role of Lucy, a young university student who has entered the world of high-end prostitution. Judging from the trailer stills, the costuming of the film is simple, understated and unadorned though adult in a sense with it's distinctive lines and deep hues which I presume evolve with her character. With Browning's porcelain beauty and delicate lips, this Brother's Grim version is sure to be a pivotal point of her acting career. The next Natalie Portman? I hope so - Emily is definitely one actress to watch!

Interesting Fact:
Sleeping Beauty has become the first Australian film selected for the main competition at the Cannes Film Festival since Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge opened the festival in 2001.
