CABBAGES AND CONDOMS - The Restaurant

This time last month, I was in Bangkok dining at the infamous Cabbages and Condoms Restaurant Thailand. Don't let the name puzzle you - the restaurant is considered as one of the most popular and authentic Thai restaurants in Bangkok city. Being at the top of the "places to eat" list, Cabbages and Condoms is a cheeky, clever and unforgettable place to dine and did I mention very affordable too! Conveniently located near one of Bangkok's main business districts, the restaurant is very popular among local and foreign clients.

So let's get down to business!

Why is it called "Cabbages and Condoms"....?!??!

Well, the restaurant is actually an initiative of the The Population and Community Development Assosiation [PDA], established to promote safe sex, contraception and the acceptance of family planning to those less educated in remote areas of Thailand. It is here they believed condoms should be just accessible as fruits and vegetables - hence the name "Cabbages and Condoms". With a concern for distribution and provision of information on affordable contraceptives, PDA projects like their Cabbages and Condoms restaurants help generate the income to assist rural communities of Thailand.

What a great initiative don't you think?! The theme of condoms was indeed loud and profound, with almost everything made out of condoms!!! = Condom fashions, celebrity mannequins, Santa Clause, lamps and quirky statues. They even had a massive poster detailing "What condom are you?" and a gift shop dedicated to condom novelties hehehe The settings of the restaurant felt like you were dining in a tropical jungle with long vines hanging from the never-ending ceiling and trees covered with multi-coloured fairy lights. The upper deck had checkered/tartan tenting, where Mountain Mist played the role of natural air-conditioning right throughout the restaurant.

Here are snaps of our dining experience there!

As we were leaving the restaurant, we were farewelled by this amazing set-up!
It was definitely the funniest thing of the night! Everyone couldn't help but to chuckle when they saw it. Thai people sure have a good sense of humour don't they!??

So for those who are planning to visit Bangkok or know of anyone who will be in the future, please do inform them of this amazing and fun restaurant! You won't be disappointed, I can assure that! :)

I still have so many photos to share with you from my trip to Thailand, so please hang in there as I update my blog in the upcoming days. I hope you all had a pleasant weekend. If you follow me on Twitter, you would of seen that I was at Fox Studios Entertainment Quarter today playing the role of 'photographer' for my sister's flying trapeze class! It was a great day outdoors cheering on my sister and her boyfriend as they swung mid-air. Will unveil more in a future post!
