AUGUST STREET - 'NAVAJO DREAMING'

When coming across new fashion designers and labels, usually it is either a hit or miss as to what makes your "lust label list". One may look for characteristics that reflect their personal fashion style, see whether the pieces are wearable and if they will be the ideal addition to their wardrobe. I can confidently say Australian fashion label August Street no doubt makes my list, ticking all the boxes for me! From their distinctive eclectic details to affordable price range, Rachel Rutt stars as their model muse in their Winter 2012 collection Navajo Dreaming. As most of you already know, I have a weak spot for native/ethnic influences so I was overly excited to see their latest collection referencing the Native Indian, not to mention running into 'the' Rachel Rutt herself pre-shoot looking effortlessly cool in her worn-in Chuck Taylors. The lovely team at August Street and very talented head designer Ainsley Hansen invited me to their showroom to get a first-hand glimpse at the collection. Here you will see details like print blocking, paneled textures, fringing, pops of neon accents and attention to modern tailoring, all offering an innovative, refreshing take on the widely popular native trend.

Seriously, how amazing is this print?!!

And this collar trimming?!

And this head-turner statement blazer?!

Just add a Fedora, bow tie and you're off on the town!

Taking the lead from the word ‘Navajo’ and ‘Dreaming’ the colour palette reflects a myriad landscape, showing an array of muted beiges set against a backdrop of sunset reds, burnt oranges and a signature of abstract animal print. Contrasting textures and standout cultural trims provide an autograph for August Street injecting visual highlights of selected chiffons, rayons and placement embroidery.

Loving the pop of neon yellow!

As the collection unfolds, we see leatherette embroidery, effortless embellishments, trims and the expression of colour. Shift dresses, ethnic flourishes and oversized tunics progress to open the ideas behind the term dreaming. Hints of teal fur, leather paneling and a matching suede shorts and jacket ensemble provide that high-street fashion cred along with over-sized knits as winter staples for the season.

Leather, animal print and suede paneling - yes please!

These shorts are too cute - the perfect winter-to-spring piece! Pair up with black opaque stockings, slouchy patterned socks and ankle boots for winter and accessorize with a big buckle leather belt and a cropped top for spring! Oh and to repeat, there's a matching jacket too!

Turn it up a notch with animal print details and full-length pants!

Inspiration from the word ‘Navajo’ has aptly been encased throughout the collection. The term originates from the American Indian’s and directly translates to mean a member of the Native people.

I hope August Street has won over your hearts as it did for mine. Great tailored basics mixed with quirky, one-of-a-kind pieces are what they're all about. Did I mention their recommended retail price between $49.95 - $149.95 - How awesome is that?!
