Most people enjoy a challenge. When it involves clothes and the opportunity to represent your home country, I guess it's a whole other ballgame in itself. The team behind UK leader fashion retailer Next have invited Your Only Black Swan to take part in their current styling challenge, where 10 Aussie bloggers battle it out with 10 UK bloggers by styling a piece from their SS12 Collection.
Amongst the shortlist of Spring/Summer pieces, I decided to choose the floral "Ditsy Print Capri Trousers" - a fancy pants number I immediately thought would be fun to style with, yet still a challenge in proving capri pants can be just as fashionable as they were back in the 90s. Most floral pieces are instinctively included in summer dressing, though here I wanted to show just how versatile this pants are when it comes to transeasonal dressing.
To combat the rainy weather and grey skies that have taken over Sydney, I have opted for a fully-layered ensemble comprised of a chunky cable knit and collared shirt. When it comes to cable knits, there is a fine line of looking like they've been knicked off Grandma, but this piece offers a modern spin with it's cropped fit and subtle bat-wing sleeves. Teamed up with a linen collared button-up shirt, this combination adds structure and contrast in texture. Crocheted socks add a touch of school-girl charm thought the inclusion of these Dee leather ankle booties by Vagabond toughen up the look along with the interesting texture of the basket weave bag.
A chic, yet casual comfy outfit which can easily be styled for the warmer months with a low-sleeve razor back tank, lace bandeau bra and tribal flats.
