Statement necklaces. I honestly can't get enough! Earlier on the blog I introduced to you Nutcase Fashion, the creative endeavour behind the ever-inspiring jewellery maker Connie Lo. For those who haven't come across Nutcase Fashion before, you are definitely in for a treat. Connie's designs are unique, daring, surprising, eclectic and above all refreshing! With statement necklaces trending BIG TIME in the fashion scene, one has to be careful of looking like a fashion clone. Can you imagine? The same necklace on multiple girls? Oh dear. The appeal instantly disappears. Sourcing the internet can be a great solution with Etsy offering a multitude of designs not available in the commercial retail scene. Over at Nutcase Fashion, each piece is made-to-order handmade and can even be customised to your personal taste. You gotta love that!

Here I am wearing the Cherry Shark necklace, one of Connie's new designs in her latest Hi' Summer 2012 Collection, The Neon Mermaid. Inspired by a mix of neon highlights, mermaid glamour and the amazing underwater world of sea creatures, Connie uses a selective combination of sea urchin inspired spikes, luminous jewels, colourful chains, seaside rope and iridescent beads to create her designs. The ombre peach and lilac shades in this Cherry Shark Necklace first caught my eye, alluding to a sunset and the stone spikes reminding me of something I may find along the beach. The on-trend gold chain brings the necklace together, adding a touch of glam.

An eclectic necklace like this makes an interesting accent to an outfit. Recently I found myself a pair of "boyfriend jeans" - mens Levi's 501s at the local thrift shop that cost only $8!!! Ahhhh I was so happy! I was searching for a pair like these for ages. Teamed up with my favourite pair of ankle boots by Vagabond, pony hair clutch and beanie from Sportgirl, this casual cool look is just one way you can style a statement necklace. I couldn't help but to wear this Philip Lim-inspired knit by Rocking On Fifth that matches perfectly with the hues in the necklace. A match made in heaven?... I think so!

To see the complete range of Nutcase Fashion's The Neon Mermaid collection, make sure you stop by Connie's Etsy store. Below are just some of her one-of-a-kind designs, each dangerously stylish in their own right.
